Today’s profile is of CH Editions The Aviator “Leo” (CH Bayside’s River Deep x CH Editions American Beauty), whelped November 2004. A handsome Blue Belton, he was bred by Conny Helms and Karen Corey of Editions and his litter included three Best in Show winners, including Leo. He was owned by Lisa and Kenn Leavelle, and his first weekend out, Lisa showed him to a major win from the puppy class under respected judge Clint Harris. He was subsequently shown in the U.S. by Larry Cornelius and Marcelo Veras. During his specials career, he won 3 Bests in Show, at least 10 Group 1 as well as multiple group placements, a Specialty Best of Breed and a specialty Best Opposite Sex win. He also won numerous ESAA Annual Awards.

According to Lisa, Leo had a tremendous show attitude and never quit, but his best quality was his temperament. He got along with everyone, including other males. He and his brother “Gio,” CH Editions The Apprentice, also owned by Lisa and Kenn, remained close their entire lives. He had a gentle mouth when it came to retrieving birds, which was evident when he carried a newly-hatched Robin that had fallen out of its nest into the house and gently laid it down.

He sired 19 American Champions and numerous European champions, notably including GCHG Gold Rush Party Attire (x Gold Rush Dance Hall Darling), bred by Diane and Norman Michelson of Gold Rush, owned by Lisa Nielsen and the Michelsens, and shown by Christy Marley. “Tux” was a Reserve BIS and multi-specialty winner and he was Best Opposite Sex at the 2019 ESAA National Specialty. A number of Leo’s other offspring also did well in the all breed ring and at specialties. The Leavelles are grateful for all the wonderful people Leo brought into their lives and are thankful for the love, care and opportunities they gave his kids. Additional photos in Comments.
