ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • DNA TESTING - discussion began at our January club meeting about the benefits of DNA testing in conjunction with OFA; the goal of this is altruistic, to provide a more robust database that can be used for future testing and identification of genetic markers in the breed. Dr. BJ Parsons, our resident DVM has offered to conduct the testing, with blood samples to be forwarded and maintained at OFA Headquarters in Missouri. Cost for each setter is $15. We are hoping to make this available to those interested at our April 18 field day and during our July Specialty. Further details will be shared following more discussion at our upcoming club meetings.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA - WEBSITE / FACEBOOK - Since committing to putting out a monthly newsletter on our website, I have decided to put some "form and function to it." This is my first iteration attempt . . . feedback welcome! - desire is to provide updates to our members and to those interested in knowing more about English Setters and our club happenings.

    • Our Facebook page is managed by Martin Sondey. Martin and I (webmaster) collaborate often via email to maintain synchronicity between these two social media tools, in an attempt to maintain visibility of news and events to our membership and to all English Setter friends! If you would like to share information on either of these sites (we are happy to get the good word out) or provide feedback, please contact Patty McBride directly at briarpatch.englishsetters.com

It was a fun weekend for 2 of the Pine Hollow pups at the Charleston Kennel Club Shows. Saturday Poppy our girl was Best Opposite Sex under judge Debra Ferguson-Jones and today she was Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex under Judge Karen Hynek. All Poppy’s wins are from the puppy bred-by class. Brother Jesse (Pine Hollow's One Moment In Time), Brett Cain’s boy, was BOW yesterday. So proud of these 2-7 month old pups!

Celebrity Spotting: Spike & Vixen Take Center Stage

Pictured here—shared with permission—are Spike and Vixen, proudly perched on the iconic Friends couch at Warner Bros. Studio. These two beautiful English Setters clearly know how to steal the spotlight! Spike and Vixen are owned by the incredibly talented Rachel Bay Jones, an acclaimed actor and singer who has achieved the rare honor of winning an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award. Rachel is currently starring in the hit television series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, continuing her impressive and dynamic career across stage and screen. A longtime admirer of the breed, Rachel has owned multiple English Setters over the years, all from BJ’s Festivity English Setters. Spike and Vixen are her current companions, and they proudly carry on the legacy of excellence, beauty, and temperament that the kennel is known for. Rachel is immensely proud to be associated with English Setters, and her love for the breed shines through—whether on set, at home, or striking a pose on one of television’s most famous couches. English Setters truly are stars in their own right—and Spike and Vixen prove it! Thank you Kathy Goodwin for sharing

When you wake up at 3:30 in the morning to help whelp puppies, then go to school all day.... You fall asleep on the way home! Super proud of this kiddo keeping it together all day and helping with puppies and he still got his reading done for his read-a-thon!

8 healthy pups (5girls, 3 boys).

Sporting Group 1 at the B Puppy Match tonight at Clemson (Jan 2) for Jesse (Pine Hollow's One Moment In Time) (Bode-Ellie); followed by WD, BOS, and BOH for his first 2 points on Jan 4!

Great weekend for the Pine Hollow pups! Proud of our Miss Poppy (Ellie daughter) going RWB (reserve winner’s bitch) (just 7 months) yesterday under Judge Carol Sommerfelt from the puppy bred by exhibitor class at the Clemson KC. Thank you to the club that does an outstanding job!

TJ had quite the awesome day! He started by going WD to finish his championship, all from Bred By and all majors, including 3 specialty majors. Then he won Best of Winners, Best Bred By, Best Owner Handled BOB, and yes, Best of Breed! We participated in the regular group, then on to the Bred By Group, which he won, then on to the NOHS Group, which he ALSO won! All at the tender age of 13 months!
